Cell & Tissue Preservation

Chemically defined and Animal Product Free

AQIX RS-I solution as used in cell and tissue culture applications is chemically defined and free of animal products, using recombinant derivatives where required.

‘Hold’ solution

AQIX® RS-I has been shown to ‘hold’ cells in a differentiated state for up to 15 days under standard culture conditions whereby, they retain cell receptor sensitivity, motility (e.g., mouse ES-derived cardiomyocytes), P450 activity (e.g., human hepatocytes),and other functions including cell potency (e.g., human CD34 cells).

Maintaining potency means preserving a cell’s ability to self replicate, expand and differentiate.

AQIX® RS-I has been shown in studies involving human PBMC T-cells, CD34+ and hepatocytes that pre-incubation in this medium gives a better yield and viability when these cells are then cultured in conventional culture media (DMEM;RPMI).

Typical uses for a ‘Hold’ medium

Drug bioassay studies on specific cell types (hepatocytes), such as ‘high throughput’ P450 screening, have proved successful simply using AQIX® RS-I whereas, current animal-derived media appear to cause variable cell receptor responsiveness resulting in ‘standardization’ issues and the questionable validity of data recorded.

The therapeutic use of stem and mesenchymal derived cell types in Regenerative medicine indicates a need to be able to deliver such cells in a quiescent, differentiated mode during delivery to the bedside. Furthermore regulatory authorities are either requiring an elimination of animal derived media or at least a substantial reduction.

Typical uses for a ‘Tissue Culture’ medium

Recent histoculture trials have shown AQIX® RS-I to be far superior to conventional cell and tissue culture media (e.g., DMEM; RPMI) in retaining the morphological structure and integrity of the RNA composition in human biopsies of skin, tonsils and colon. Animal and Human biopsies have been stored and transported in AQIX® RS-I over ice for 12 – 36 hours using AQIX® Polymer Plastic containers as part of standard operating procedures.
