Transplant Fluid

AQIX RS-I solution uniquely replicates the tissue fluid present in all human organs, without adding extracts of human or animal serum.

It can be used to store organs ‘cold static’ in the simple ‘bag on ice method’ or in a machine perfusion system.

AQIX RS-I can also be used to perfuse organs over a range of temperatures from 4°C up to ‘normothermic’ body temperature.

The benefits are:

  • Reducing both ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ ischemic damage and so increasing the success of primary graft function.
  • Increasing the global availability of viable organs for transplant.
  • Minimizing organ rejection and post-transplant care and associated costs.
  • Providing a better physiological environment to assess and potentially improve the natural function of the organ.
  • Maintaining the functionality of the organ as if it had never left the donor body and potentially restore any imbalance in basic homeostatic mechanisms.
  • Speeding up and simplifying the transplant process, from donor organ procurement to preparation of the organ for transplantation.
  • Providing the ideal solution for all types of animal and human donor cells, tissues and organs.
  • Providing the ideal environment and continuity for procuring and then normothermically perfusing human organs and biopsied tissues used for R&D.

Pre-clinical

Independent trials have demonstrated AQIX RS-I's superiority over other preservation and perfusion solutions in low temperature studies (see publications).

Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that AQIX RS-I maintains the functional viability of isolated, animal and human tissues and organs at normothermic temperatures (see publications). No other preservation solution is suitable for the normothermic storage, transportation and perfusion of isolated tissues or organs other than autologous blood itself.

AQIX RS-I is currently involved in trials as a hypothermic or normothermic perfusate blood substitute in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) procedures.
